Since they are near to Lenggong river, there are bountiful type of fishes there, and the most famous from Lenggong is 西刀魚 Grey Featherback fish.
There are several dishes that I especially love from Lenggong, which are:
1. 西刀魚腩 Steamed Grey Featherback fish belly with ginger and garlic.
I just love this as it is soooo smooth and fragrant that it makes me salivate everytime I think of it!
2. Paku Belacan - Belacan Fern
Hey.., I never know that this Paku is considered as vegetable before I first ate it in Lenggong, but now I have tried it, I am hooked. Sad thing is you cannot find this vegie in KL, and if you can, it is definitely not fresh, blackish and freaking pricey~ So whenever I visit Lenggong, I will definitely dropped by the wet market to buy a few stalks back and ask my MIL to cook it. Yummy~
3. 魚滑 Fish Paste
CK told me it was made from grey featherback fish as well, as only the belly can be consumed, the other parts of the fish is made into this fish paste, which is smooth and bouncy. Really a must order.
There are others, but I didn't take pics as I forgot to snap as usual when I saw food. :D
When I first went to Lenggong which was in October 2003, it was a peaceful small little town and the Grey featherback fish is always available. But recently, thanx to this guy below, Lenggong has become a famous tourist spot, especially for those asking for 4D number, heheheh.
The story went like this:
There was an Indonesian guy who always dreamt of the monk above telling him where to find his remains in the jungle (hmm.., dunno whether it's the right word) of Lenggong. The monk has been dead for 300 years, kononnya~
The Indon guy made 3 attempts to explore Lenggong, before finally he met the 2 persons exactly like in his dream, who pointed him to the direction where he could find a particular tree where the monk reached Nirvana. And after he successfully found the monk's remain, the guy stroke it rich by the 4D number he found on the particular tree trunk.
Since then, the Indon guy built this temple in the location where he found the remains to pay respect for the monk. And also since then, my favorite Grey Featherback fish belly price sky rocketed. :(
This is the tree where the Indon guy found the 4D number
As can be seen here, so many people are trying to rub the tree, as some rumours going around, if you rub the tree and pray sincerely, you will see 4D numbers, which are sure win number. I do not know how true that rumour is though, and I was there not for numbers, only to pay respect.
Kesian the tree.... kena molest like this. :P I heard there were people who even rub the tree using sand paper!!! OMG~
By the time of my visit, I saw there were a number of Thai monks who went to pay respect as well.
And along the road to the entrance, stalls blooming like mushrooms during rainy days! There were so many stalls selling flowers, joss sticks, ice cream, and food, and every stalls business are good~ So gotta thanks the monk to liven up Lenggong economy!
There are so many things to talk about Lenggong, but I better stop here. Heheh.., when I am free, I will post up the mischievous things that I did in Lenggong~
:P
