And where else to get the freshest of fresh seafood other than by seaside (what a dump question, I know, but I just can't resist it).
We went to Kota Tinggi July 25th to visit CK's sister as well as to deliver her maid up to her door. How nice of us, to drive up North for 4 hours just for this task. :D
Other than that, we also bring his Mom over to visit as it has been quite long since she has her break from her grandchildren in KL.
We started our journey at, again, night time after work, and if memory serves me right, reached around 1pm in Kota Tinggi. By that time, me and CK were ravenous, and Mooi (CK's sis) was kind enough to treat us for one of the best Tom Yam I have ever had in Msia.
I had Tom Yam Seafood, it was tangy enough without the spiciness that can choke you, and just suit my taste! CK had Pattaya Fried Rice, again, it was good. It's kind of rare to find fried rice in Malay store that the rice do not stick to each other.
Heheh.., no pics, since it was late, and I was sleepy and hungry enough to savour whole shark.
The next day was spent in Mooi's home, educating the new maid on what is expected from her.
Mooi's hb bought us the biggest size durian I have ever seen, how could I forget to snap the pic. :( I supposed for a preggie, she could forget everything in the name of food she craved (heheh..., excuses!)
Afterward, Mooi also brought us to a secluded area that maybe only locals know for the best ever Bak Kut Teh. The stew was thick and the meat was really tender. Again no pics. (Really wondering, what happened to me..... maybe still blur and sleepy?)
However, to make that up, let's talk about our dinner. Home cooked, freshly caught and bought seafood. All courtesy of Mooi's hubby.
First to start will be CRABS!!! Wow.., he bought enough to last my craving for 1 year, I supposed. Freshly steamed with all the roe. Nothing beats steamed fresh seafood, I tell ya!
Next would be FISH. It breaks my heart to know fresh seafood being fried, it always does. Fresh seafood should be steamed to retain its sweetness, but Mooi's convinced me the IKAN MASAK TIGA RASA is worth it, and so it does!
Basically, the fish was fried, and showered with sauce that is sweet, tangy, sour and a little bit spicy. The mamak store owner, where we ate previously, was the chef. And bravo to her! Oh.., I forgot the pics of the sauce.
Next to come is TOM YAM..., hehehe.... Mooi's hubby bought lots of fresh seawater prawn, and do not know what to do with it. Finally decided to ask the mamak store owner to cook Tom Yam for us with the prawn, and OH MY.., what a wise decision, as it really add more kicks to the tom yam, sweeter, tastier!
Pardon my hand there.
Last, but not least, I supposed this is what's called as CRAYFISH, or local lobster. Best if steamed with Chinese cooking wine + ginger. But since their home run out of Chinese cooking wine, they substitute with Yomeishu. So sayang.., really spoiled the taste. :(
Before steamed:
After steamed:
He bought so much lobster that we have to steam in separate 3 plates! Imagine the high cholestrol.., LOL.
No wonder, I failed in that area during my recent medical check up (hehe.. but mostly was I didn't skip my meal for the last 8 hours as requested.)
